JIFSAN presented on the effectiveness of Maryland GAP trainings at NAREA Annual Meeting

Xiaoya Dou, a graduate assistant for JIFSAN's Metrics program, recently presented at the Northeastern Agricultural and Resource Economics Association (NAREA) 2017 Annual Meeting in Arlington, VA. Xiaoya described the presentation as follows:

University of Maryland Extension has been providing Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) trainings to farmers throughout the state for years. Between 2014 and 2016, JIFSAN collaborated with the Extension to collect information and evaluate the effectiveness of this training. Based on our statistical findings, we made suggestions on how to improve future trainings. In addition, by including a variable on farm size, our findings help us to understand the mandatory Produce Safety Alliance (PSA) trainings required by the new produce safety rule under the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). - Xiaoya Dou
